Blog Hop Promotion!

A writer of esoteric mystery along the lines of the doomsday prophesies, terrorism and spiritual fields is one Jerry Robb who kindly, sent me a copy of his fine tome recently. We are participating – at his suggestion – in a blog hop / interview promo so here goes…

1: What is the working title of your book(s)?
I am writing The Vril chronicles book Series and have completed Part One and Part Two of the series.
Part Two is subtitled: The Vril Codex 2 – “The Dresden Benefactor” and is a mystery.
I am working on ideas for a Part Three, for completion in 2013. Originally I did not plan any more than two books but am changing my mind on this as there is so much potential in the Vril mythology. I have just completed a science fiction novel written in the last year called “The Utopiate Complex”

2: Where did the idea come from for the book?
I read “The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail” as a child and it stayed with me all my life so I was astonished at the success of the Da Vinci Code which has so many of the ideas from that book so what I did was create a character – in Warwick Blake – that’s was based on one of the writers of Holy Blood called Henry Lincoln.  After reading various conspiracy accounts of the Nazi’s and the occult as well as seeing a documentary I decided that it would be a fun idea to make up my own mythology based on the Norse background to a lot of Nazi imagery which in itself was harmless.  I was also inspired by the belief in Vril and the ancient land of Thule which the composer Charles Gounod had written a piece of music for within his opera “Faust”.  I also have met conspiracy theorists on UFO’s and the Nazi’s as well as the paranormal.

3: What genre does your book come under?
Thriller- Supernatural Horror -Science fiction.

4: Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
Bob Wilkinson – Rufus Sewell. Jane Wilkinson – Rachael Stirling.  Warwick Blake – Michael Gambon.
Helena Hister –  ?

5: What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
“The Vril codex” is the story of the Nazi’ occult beliefs in ancient Norse myth,
satanic practises and alien technology and is the first novel to mythologise and build a story around real life conspiracy theories.

6: Is your book self-published, published by an independent publisher, or represented by an agency?
The Vril Codex is published by Vamptasy Publishing – an independent publisher.

7: How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
Part One took about 6 months – then I rewrote and changed it over a year period, adding and revising, so all in all just over 18 months. Part Two took about 12 months.

8: What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
Frederick Forsyth’s work or James Herbert’s have been compared but I tried to do something different with this though some have compared it to the Da Vinci Code, which as a book I can take or leave though I like its concepts.

9: Who or what inspired you to write this book?

I was inspired to write in after reading conspiracy books on the subject and realizing there had never been a fictional novel on the subject as such. Holy grail, Knights Templar, the spear and various others have been done endlessly.

I searched obscure libraries and spoke to experts on “Vril” power and made sure I did not read the 19th century Bulwer Lytton novel – “vril – the coming race” as I wanted to produce the first novel to ever tackle the Nazi links with the supernatural and alien life. Vril was a religion to the Nazi’s as occultists and I decided to look at books like “Morning of the Magicians” to really get background on the subject.

10: What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
The vril codex is the first book ever written to mythologize the ancient norse myths, vril power and thule ancient land myths as well as UFO’S and the Nazi connection.  I did not want to do the “obvious” thing and have the novel feature Hitler etc…that would be boring so I created my own characters and mythologies inspired by figures from history as well as conspiracy figures such as Maria Orsic.

My audience would range from teenagers to the elderly. It took me two years to write and involved painstaking research and effort. I learned how to improve my art as a process. The cover was a collaboration of ideas between me and my publisher Vamptasy – Nicola Ormerod. I am very happy with it as it focuses on aliens rather than the rather obvious swastika of the previous release. I want to introduce a whole mythology and possible series to readers and open minds to the possibility of alien life and the supernatural.

I have written a full sequel and have enjoyed being interviewed on the BBC on national and local radio on my writing.

4. Terry Ravenscroft – I have never met Terry but discovered him when The Vril Codex 2 was with Youwriteon/feedaread publishing and I was astonished at the man’s long pedigree in comedy spanning 35 years.  Strangely most won’t have heard of him but his characters “Cissie and Ada” are known to everyone in the UK who ever watched the Les Dawson show – which Terry wrote for.  “Stairlift to Heaven” and “I’m in Heaven” had me laughing endlessly….
